Rupiah Remonetization Expected to Boost Indonesia's Image in the Eyes of the World

"Image of our country will also be affected. If people come, do not need to be businessmen, just tourists, if we want to exchange money (surprised) 100 US dollars will get Rp. 1.3 million right?" Darmin said while smiling in Jakarta, Monday (19/12/2016).

According to him, redenomination or simplification of value will make rupiah more efficient. Exchange rates with other currencies will not look fantastic even though nominally there is no change.

Besides that, Darmin said, rupiah redenomination will also provide benefits for its users. Including simplifying calculations in each transaction.

However, society must wait for the government's decision. Whether or not to agree with redenomination, Darmin said, must be accepted by all parties.

Previously, the discourse about rupiah redenomination re-emerged after Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo asked President Joko Widodo to directly support the Rupiah Redenomination Bill.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani has also spoken out about the re-emerging discourse of rupiah redenomination. According to him, redenomination will make the market more trustful towards rupiah.
