NY coffee ends up on commods gains, short-covering

NEW YORK, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Arabica coffee futures ended 1 percent higher on Monday, rebounding from the previous session's four-month low, driven by a combination of short-covering and broad-based commodities gains, traders said.

   


    * March Arabica coffee futures <KCH0> gained 1.85 cents or 1.4 percent to close at $1.2880 per lb.

    * Session range from $1.2850 to $1.3160.

    * March volume reached 12,882 lots.

    * Underlying interest and short-covering offset speculative selling earlier in the session - softs trader.

    * Coffee supported by a bounce in the commodity complex while the weaker dollar<.DXY> attracted buying - traders.

    * Reuters-Jefferies CRB index <.CRB>, a benchmark for commodities, climbed over 1 percent.

    * Green Mountain Coffee Roasters <GMCR.O> extended for the second time its $35 a share cash offer to buy Diedrich Coffee Inc <DDRX.O> by 20 business days. [ID:nSGE6170KO]

    * Total volume on Friday at 38,493 lots, up from the previous 28,496 lots - ICE data.

    * Total open interest 129,031 lots by Feb. 5, down from the previous 130,307 lots - ICE.
