President Jokowi Invites Facebook to Support Digital Economy

The statement was delivered by President Jokowi while meeting with Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, who was accompanied by Facebook executives in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Wednesday afternoon local time or Monday morning Jakarta time.The president said that the Indonesian Government welcomes Facebooks contributions to the development of Indonesias digital economy and culture.`I hope that Facebook can cooperate in Indonesias efforts to achieve the vision of becoming the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia, namely by reaching 130 billion US dollars by 2020,` the president said.The president added that the digital economy in Indonesia is driven by the development of UMKM (small and medium enterprises).To that end, Indonesia has prepared an action plan for the digital economy in the medium and long term with a focus on accelerating access to digital technology for UMKM.The Indonesian government has adopted several policies to encourage the rise of techopreneurs, attract investment, including in the IT field, and provide funding access for UMKM.The president went on to say that the Indonesian government also continues to set policies that encourage innovation.These include an action plan to create 1000 technopreneurs and protection for start-up business owners.Regarding the creation of 1000 technopreneurs, Indonesia is encouraging Facebook to support the education of new IT developers in Indonesia.`I also hope that Facebook can support Indonesias efforts to empower the digital economy for UMKM,` said the president.On this occasion, the president also conveyed that he had appealed to the leaders of ASEAN and the US at the KTT in Sunnylands on 15-16 February 2016 to empower leaders of peace.To that end, the president especially hoped that Facebook could help convey this message of peace.`I invite Facebook to strengthen the spread of the message of tolerance, moderation, and peace,` said the president.At the Facebook headquarters, the president and the First Lady toured the Facebook employees workspace, chatted with Indonesian Facebook employees at the Roof Top Garden, and visited the Oculus Virtual Reality demonstration location.As he was leaving Facebook, the president wrote a short message, `Together in Peace and Harmony,` and signed the Facebook Signature Wall.
