World Bank starts process to select president

The decision follows current World Bank President Jim Yong Kim's notice that he intends to seek a second term in office. Kim's term ends on June 30, 2017.

The World Bank said it will follow the principles used in the 2012 selection when Kim was appointed.

Nominations for the position by the bank's executive directors will open on August 25 and close on September 14, the World Bank said.

Following the close of nominations, the executive directors will decide on a shortlist of up to three candidates and then conduct interviews with them.

Local media report that Kim has the backing of some major World Bank shareholders, including the United States, for a second term.
