Vietnam to raise male retirement age to 62, females to 60
The ministry is collecting feedback from experts and related agencies on its plan to raise the retirement age to 60 from the current 55 for women and 62 from 60 for men.
The ministry also wants the Labor Code to be amended and supplemented, including the proposed retirement age increase, to avoid overspending of the social insurance fund.
According to a recent survey by the World Economic Forum, the average life expectancy of Vietnamese people is 75.6 years.
The figure ranks Vietnam 56th among 138 countries surveyed, and second in Southeast Asia after Singapore.
According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the life expectancy in the southeastern region is the highest, while in the Central Highlands it is the lowest, Xinhua reported.
