Indonesia rubber exports to meet target in 2006

The Xinhua news agency reports Indonesia’s rubber export is predicted to meet the full year target of 2.2 million tons this year as demands from major buyers stay high, the industry association said Wednesday.
Rubber export stood at 1.5 million tons in eight months ending August with plenty of orders in hand from major buyers like the United States, China and Japan, said Gapkindo, the association of rubber producers in Indonesia.
The national rubber production is estimated to reach 2.4 million tons this year. Syarbaini Zain, Gapkindo executive secretary in North Sumatra, was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying that Indonesian rubber remains to enjoy high demand in the international market and rubber price will regain some ground next year. The country’s rubber export stood at 2.05 million tons in 2005 and is targeted to rise to 2.4 million tons in 2007.
