Ask Wilmar Palm Gardens Earn 3 RSPO Certificate

JAKARTA: Three groups of oil palm plantation covering an area of 35,000 hectares of the Wilmar Group is undergoing an audit conducted by the Rountable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) to obtain product certification crude palm oil (CPO).
`Wilmar Group remained consistent in supporting the preservation of the environment in three oil palm plantations in three provinces,` said MP Tumanggor, one of the Commissioner of the Wilmar Group, today.

The three oil palm plantation companies are PT Kerry Sawit Indonesia, which has a concession area of 19,000 hectares in Seruyan District, Central Kalimantan, PT Sawit Kencana Indonesia with concession area of 10,000 ha in South Solok, West Sumatra, and PT Tania Selatan in South Sumatra.

According Tumanggor, Wilmar International efforts to re three palm awitnya to undergo an audit before obtaining certification RSPO palm oil products is the company's seriousness of environmental problems associated with global climate change issues. `There's no choice anymore, except adhere to the criteria defined in the management of RSPO sustainable palm oil plantations.`

He explained it takes at least 1 year to 2 years to fix a number of criteria in accordance with the RSPO established an independent team before giving their recommendations to the oil palm plantation companies who obtain certification of its products.

Tumanggor adds a significant challenge in oil palm plantation industry today is how to convince the stakeholders that the management of oil palm plantations are managed by keeping the head of environmental sustainability. `So not only how to increase production, but still maintain a good balance of ecosystem and social environment,` he said.

As we know the volume of exports of crude palm oil CPO) during January to April 2010 reached 2.5 million tons and 2.15 million tons of refined products. Based on the export destination country in the period from January to April, India becomes the largest market share of Indonesia's CPO with the number of requests 1.16 million tons, while China occupies a major consumer of derivative products amounted to 543,688 tons.
