Oil prices plunge
U.S. crude oil inventories rose by 2.3 million barrels last week to 485.4 million barrels, lifting the year-on-year increase by 1.9 percentage points to reach 7.3 percent, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said Wednesday. The U.S. benchmark, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for February delivery, decreased 81 U.S. cents to settle at 52.49 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Meanwhile, the global benchmark, Brent North Sea for February delivery, dropped 89 U.S. cents to close at 54.46 U.S. dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange. (A026)
