Sugar Prices Rise

JAKARTA: While have entered the milling season, sugar prices in the domestic market has increased slowly. The increase in sugar prices is expected as a response to the sugar production that is incompatible with earlier calculations.

"We can say relatively stable, but move a little. Tendensinya move a little bit upwards rather than down. That is all that move in the sugar industry has responded that the target production of sugar is not on that account from the beginning, "said Director General of Domestic Trade Ministry of Commerce Subagyo, today.

Based on data from the Ministry of Commerce, the national average price of sugar on this day was recorded at Rp10.982 per kilogram, declined 0.04% or Rp4 per kilogram compared to the prices in yesterday which was recorded at Rp10.986 per kilogram.

The average price in October when compared with an increase Septmeber Rp355 per kilogram, or 3.36% from Rp10.571 per kilogram to Rp10.926 per kilogram. The highest price occurred in Manokwari amounted to 15,000 per kilogram while the lowest price in Pontianak at Rp9.750 per kilogram.

"We hope this price movement is not because of speculators. If it exists, then there will be repression. In these circumstances, there should not be playing. Hoarding is part of the actions that need to be penalized quite heavily, "said Subagyo.
