Ministry of Religion: Islamic New Year remains on August 11, 2021, 1 Muharram 1443 H

"The Islamic New Year remains 1 Muharram 1443 H, coinciding on 10 August 2021 AD. The holiday has been moved to 11 August 2021 AD," said Kamaruddin Amin in Jakarta, Wednesday (4/8/2021). This change is contained in the Joint Decree of the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of PAN RB No. 712, 1, and 3 of 2021 concerning the Second Amendment to the Joint Decree of the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower, the Minister of PAN, and RB No. 642, 4, and 4 of 2020 concerning National Holidays and Joint Leave. In addition to the holiday in commemoration of 1 Muharram 1443 H, there is also a change in the holiday in commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday, 12 Rabiul Awwal 1443 H. "Initially the holiday was October 19, which changed to October 20, 2021 AD," he explained. "Meanwhile, the joint leave in the context of Christmas on December 24, 2021 AD, has been canceled," he continued. Kamaruddin explained that this policy is part of efforts to prevent and handle the spread of Covid-19. "This is an attempt to anticipate the emergence of new clusters, therefore it is deemed necessary to make changes to holidays and joint leave in 2021 AD," he said. "So only the holidays have changed, not the religious holidays," he emphasized.
